Project Overview
Sos Verde is a digital kitchen device that lets users keep an updated inventory of their perishable foods, with the purpose of reducing home food waste.
How it works
The software is directly linked to Costa Rica’s main supermarkets, so users can automatically load their inventory when they buy their groceries, simply by scanning a QR code on their receipt. Each product on the receipt has a special code that contains the quantity bought and its expiration date. The software also has a curated database that pulls suggested expiring dates for different products in case there isn’t one already associated with the product’s code. In addition, users have the ability to manually import new products to the software and change quantities and expiration dates.
What’s in it for them?
As time goes by and the users utilize the perishable foods in their kitchen, they can update their inventory. Sos Verde notifies users whenever one of their foods is about to expire and gives them different ways in which they can utilize the food so that it doesn’t go to waste. Whenever the users utilize a food that was about to expire, Sos Verde rewards them by telling them how they contributed to the environment by not letting that food go to waste. Users can furthermore earn and accumulate different awards that will keep them motivated to continue using Sos Verde.
